The Firm

It has been calculated that the solar energy received by the earth in one hour is comparable to the world population’s total energy usage for a year.

In 2009, Sculler became active in the solar energy industry in Ontario. For over 15 years, Sculler has worked in the solar and renewables industry in many capacities.

In addition to operating its existing solar assets, Sculler has broad expertise in financial restructuring and tax optimisation, and access to unique resources, which enable the group to acquire under-performing, distressed, or even failed solar portfolios that might otherwise have limited prospects. Please make contact with us if you want to explore such an opportunity.

Early Industry Adoption and Investment

In the early years, Sculler created business relationships with several solar contracting firms. Its role was to function as a capital provider (investing with both debt and equity), developer and owner/operator of ground and roof-mounted solar projects in Ontario. Now, with more than 350 facilities installed to date, the firm manages the largest number of MicroFIT projects owned by a single corporate entity in Ontario, and has developed an expertise in the funding, development and ownership of commercial-sized rooftop and ground-mounted solar projects. Through Sculler’s hands on approach, a working relationship has been developed with:

  • Energy associated government agencies and regulatory groups
  • Electrical utilities
  • Manufacturing and servicing firms
  • Contracting and support firms
  • Law firms (specialising in tax, real estate, litigation, etc.)
  • Insurance providers
  • Other investors and asset managers

Later Stage Industry – Restructuring and Value Recovery

In addition to asset managing a portfolio of solar assets, in later years, Sculler became involved in rebuilding, investing in, and financially restructuring solar assets. This included legal and financing strategies required to reposition solar assets with the objective of improving the financial stability and returns of various solar portfolios in Ontario. Being effective in this area requires expertise and working relationships in commercial and litigation law, finance, engineering, and operations.

Emerging Energy Technologies

The energy supply and distribution market is experiencing fundamental change. Many means of energy generation and distribution are having to be reimagined in order to support a changing population and the impacts to this on our climate. The magnitude of this industry-wide reconstruction in an industry as vital as energy, will continue to effect virtually all aspects of our lives for the foreseeable future.

Being in the industry for over 15 years, naturally provides exposure to many of the evolving solutions in areas such as:

  • Energy Storage
  • Grid Stabilisation
  • Power Control

As a natural extension of Sculler’s efforts in generation investment management, we are actively exploring other early-stage innovations, products, and technologies, that have long-term growth potential with the objective of providing financing solutions and industry support.
